Game Day Beer Brats

The Seahawks are headed to Munich, Germany to play the Bucaneers on November, 13th! Will you be watching? And more importantly, what will you be eating?

Here’s an idea… why not cook up some German-inspired eats for your family & friends? May we tempt you with our fresh Beer Bratwursts simmered in beer (duh)? Slow-cook your onions because we love a bit of caramelization around here. Squish between buns to serve. Don’t forget to serve with your favorite mustard and a big ol’ bowl of sauerkraut.

Viel Glück HAWKS!

Ingredients

  • 1 package Bavarian Meats Beer Bratwursts

  • 1 can of your favorite beer (we recommend Ruben’s Pilsner)

  • 2 yellow onions - thinly sliced (¼-½”)

  • 1 Tablespoon olive oil

  • 1 Tablespoon butter

To serve:

  • 4 buns

  • Favorite mustard

  • Sauerkraut

Directions

  • Time to caramelize some onions. Heat a medium pan over medium-low heat and add 1 tablespoon olive oil and 1 tablespoon butter. Once the butter is melted, add in the sliced onions and stir to combine.

  • Cook the onions, stirring occasionally for 10 minutes, then sprinkle in the salt. Continue cooking, stirring occasionally for 30 minutes.

  • While your onions are cooking, let’s cook some brats in beer!

  • Pour can of beer (you can sneak a few sips, we won’t tell!) into a medium sized saucepan. Bring to a simmer.

  • Pierce your fresh brats a few times, and add to simmering beer.

  • Cook brats in beer over a low simmer for 10-12 minutes until cooked all the way through.

  • Close to the end of cooking, pre-heat a cast-iron grill or bbq to medium-high heat.

  • Transfer the brats from the beer to pan - it’s time sizzle. Finish cooking the brats by turning a few times in the pan or over the grill to achieve that nice, golden crust that we all know & love.

  • It’s time to enjoy. Serve your beer cooked fresh bratwurst in a bun, topped with caramelized onions, your favorite mustard and a serving of kraut on the side.

Pro Tip: That’s right, we said serve with mustard. It’s “Just say no” to ketchup around here!
